'Minecraft' DLC news, release date: 'Chinese Mythology' expansion pack rolling out next month

Chinese Mythology Mash Up DLC for Minecraft Mojang

"Minecraft" for consoles is getting a lot of new content with free updates coming for PlayStation 4, Wii U, and Xbox One, but a paid DLC is also coming in early October called the "Chinese Mythology Mash Up" DLC pack.

The new DLC was showcased during MineCon which took place last week, and details are now on the game's official site. The trailer has since been released online, and it showcases 41 new skins that are being added into the game alongside a brand new world based entirely on the lore of China, including Chinese dragons.

Ancient cities, the new map that PC gamers got back in June, and some glitch fixes will also be added into the DLC. There will also be up to 12 new music themes added, and these can be edited and added into player creations such as their crafted castles and towns.

"Chinese Mythology Mash Up" will cost $4.99.

Apart from the paid DLC, some of the free updates include players being able to use banners for decorative purposes, polar bears and their cubs, which can be found roaming the frozen biomes in the game, will also be added, and new terrain generation. The latter includes igloos appearing in arctic biomes and fossils appearing deep under the ground. Beetroots can also be farmed and used for soup. New blocks are also being added into the game.

All of the aforementioned content, free and paid alike, will launch for the Xbox One and Wii U in North America on Oct. 4. The PlayStation 4 and other regions around the world will get the content on Oct. 5. It is uncertain at this point if any additional content and DLC will be launched at the same time.

Other announcements made during MineCon 2016 include the unveiling of the first official "Minecraft" novel which will be written by "World War Z" author Max Brooks. Oculus Touch support is also being added for the PC version of "Minecraft."
