Mayweather next fight news 2015: Shawn Porter would have been a better choice for Floyd €” Mosley

The list of boxers, critics, and analysts who are, to this day, left wondering why Floyd Mayweather Jr. would opt to fight a less heralded opponent in Andrei Berto continues to swell.

The latest person to give his two cents worth is Sugar Shane Mosley, a former boxing champion who himself is set to make a ring comeback against rival Ricardo Mayorga on Aug. 29, in a battle of 40-year-old fighters at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Mosley was not shy to admit that he joins the fray of clueless onlookers on why Berto would be the chosen one for the Sept. 12 bout. Of course, many believe that the decision was due to Mayweather wanting to take it easy and get to 49–0. On the matter of retirement, well, such is up for debate.

Mosley believes that another fighter would have been a more suitable opponent for Mayweather. He is none other than Shawn Porter, a close friend and sparring partner.

"Mayweather is an excellent fighter. He is sharp and he is fast. Berto is a B, A minus fighter. He really should be fighting Shawn Porter who is coming off a victory over Adrien Broner. You have Keith Thurman and all of these young fighters and myself, myself included — willing to fight Mayweather. I can't see it but he knows best," Mosley stated in an interview with boxingscene.com.

Berto hasn't exactly been given a chance against Mayweather despite the former world champion's allegations that he has what it takes to knock out Floyd Jr. and pull one of the sport's greatest upsets.

Sadly, such has not successfully swayed people to believe that he could do so.

Whatever happens, it remains that folks will have to live with the fact that Mayweather vs. Berto is already official. The outcome may be as good as made from the moment the two fighters step into the ring; but the curious question right now is on whether or not the undefeated boxer will really call it quits or fight on in 2016.
