'Mass Effect: Andromeda' release date, news: current plans don't include Nintendo Switch port

It was previously reported that the Nintendo Switch is getting a lot of third-party support from companies like Electronic Arts and Square-Enix. However, it has now been confirmed that "Mass Effect: Andromeda," one of the most highly anticipated sci-fi action-RPGs to date, will not be launching for the Switch.

It is important to note that while Electronic Arts is the publisher of the "Mass Effect" series, the games are developed by Bioware, and unfortunately, Bioware was not listed among the companies that would be releasing games on the Nintendo Switch.

"Mass Effect: Andromeda" producer Michael Gamble further explained the situation on Twitter, responding to several inquiries from the fans. Gamble first confirmed that the current plans are to release the game solely for the PC, Xbox One, PS4, and the upcoming PS4 Pro. He did not include a version for the Xbox One Scorpio or the Nintendo Switch.

When asked if there was a possibility for a Nintendo Switch port sometime in the future, Gamble replied "I can't speak for the future. Just the current plans."

While this does not rule out a Nintendo Switch port in the future, it also means Bioware is dedicating their time right now on the versions already planned.

It must also be pointed out that Nintendo has yet to reveal the full specs of the Switch, and it may be possible that the console might not be able to run "Mass Effect: Andromeda" as smoothly as the PS4 or Xbox One. If this is true, then porting the game will require Bioware to spend more time and resources to optimize the game for the Switch's capabilities.

"Mass Effect: Andromeda" is scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2017. If a Nintendo Switch port is still on the table, it might not launch until much later in the year or by 2018.
