Mariah Carey heeds doctors' advice to rest before performing in New York

Everyone knows it is the Yuletide season once supermarkets and malls start playing Mariah Carey's Christmas songs. But for this year, the singer is choosing to prioritize herself over the holidays, pushing her shows to later dates.

Carey canceled three shows on her "All I Want for Christmas Is You" tour as per doctors' advice, just after she had also postponed other shows last week because of upper respiratory tract infection (URTI). The former wife of Nick Canon was slated to start her tour on Nov. 17, but pushed it on Dec. 2, hence her cancellation of her performances as well on Nov. 28 and Dec. 1.

The "Touch My Body" singer announced the news through social media. Carey posted her new schedule for her tour, and on the caption revealed that she was thankful for her health. She went on to say that her doctors had advised her that she needed rest before finally gracing the stage in the Beacon Theatre in New York.

"While this news disappoints me to share, I am grateful to be on the mend and for the support from all of you - it means the world to me! See you from the stage soon darlings!" Carey added.

Meanwhile, her fans, whom she calls Lambs, expressed their support for their idol, with many wishing her well and others explaining that they understood her decision.

Her New York performance will be followed by another on in Paris, at the AccorHotels Arena on Dec. 9. Then she will have two UK shows: one in Manchester on Dec. 10 and another in London on Dec. 11. Finally, Carey will be in the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas from Dec. 14.

Prior to her announcement, the "We Belong Together" singer also took to Instagram to greet everyone a happy Thanksgiving and to share that she had been feeling "under the weather," but that she was happy to celebrate the occasion with people close to her.
