After officially announcing his September tiff against Andre Berto on September 12, 2015, many are left thinking if it will indeed be the last boxing match of Floyd Mayweather's colorful career.
In the eyes of many, Mayweather is expected to cruise to his goal next month, that of which is to reach 49-0 which will allow the undefeated boxer to match the record currently held by boxing great Rocky Marciano.
Berto did promise to put up a tough fight but most experts are having a hard time seeing him pulling one over Mayweather.
Floyd Jr. has faced the best boxers there is to date and not one of them have come close to solving the Mayweather puzzle.
Moving forward, the question now comes into mind, will he really retire?
Chances are Mayweather may announce his retirement though the doors will not be totally closed. Many boxers have retired in the past but came back at some point especially if the fight purse is good.
So with that in mind, the closest adversary who could woo Mayweather out of retirement could be Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines.
Many critics will of course oppose those plans, especially after what they saw last May 2. But the thing here is the fan base of both fighters. Though a rematch may not return the same record-breaking revenue, just a chunk of that $200 million earning is still a lot of money to take home.
For now of course all that is up in the air. Many don't want to see a repeat of May 2, 2015 but that doesn't mean the camps of both fighters are not thinking about it.
It would all depend on what happens after September 12 and when Pacquiao is 100% healthy.
Pacquiao is currently rehabilitating his right shoulder after undergoing surgery and the target date of his return could be by the first quarter of 2016.
Mayweather and Pacquiao have ruled out a rematch but in the end, it would be best to remember that money talks.
