One thing that endears Manny Pacquiao to his countrymen is his willingness to help. And for those who have probably heard by now, one of the highly controversial scams plaguing the country right now is the celebrated "Laglag bala" modus.
The modus, which has left locals and visiting nationalities a bad impression about the country's airports, involves discreet dropping of bullets by alleged airport personnel into bags of passengers for the purpose of extorting money from them to avoid apprehension or charges.
While the issue has yet to be acted on by the government, the Filipino boxing icon has come forward to lend a free helping hand to the ones who may fall prey from the devious scam.
Pacquiao is currently the vice chairman for the House of Representatives committee on overseas workers' affairs and has acted on the embarrassing development on his own.
For his part, Pacquiao has commissioned a legal team to provide assistance to people in need. Lawyer Jojo Bondoc is the man tasked to head the free legal service. Bondoc can be reached at +6392 09211162 and people may inquire with him in case they fall prey to the bullet-dropping scam.
With the Holiday season fast approaching, a lot of overseas worker are expected to come home to be with their loved ones. Most are expected to be returning with large amounts of money and other expensive items from their hard-earned work and it is just unfortunate that criminal elements in the airport facility are taking advantage of such.
Philippine President Benigno Aquino III has already ordered Department of Transportation and Communication Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya to look into the issue as the number of victims preyed upon continues to grow.
