CBS will be launching the reboot of the classic "MacGyver" series before the end of September, and yet, the early reviews are already indicating negative feedback.

A report from AJC states that the series will be premiering this Sept. 23, and it will star Lucas Till, known for his role as Alex Summers in the "X-Men" films, in the titular role. The role of Angus Macgyver was previously played by Richard Dean Anderson in the original 1985–1992 series.

However, the report points out that, unlike the original series MacGyver is not going to be working on his own and will now have a team. Sandrine Holt stars as Patricia Thornton, the leader of the team, and George Eads as government employee Jack Dalton. Tristin Mays plays a hacker and Justin Hines comes in as the team's comedic relief.

Unfortunately, the premiere episode has been showcased to several outlets and has thus far received negative reviews. IGN has rated the premiere episode 4.5 out of 10. Variety has also given the premiere episode a low rating, stating that "Macgyver" and the rebooted "Lethal Weapon" series fail to live up to the originals.

IGN's review states that Till's performance is not as good as Richard Dean's, and unlike the original series, his character in the reboot does not create extravagant inventions on the fly, and instead, resort to very small and simple inventions such as a paper clip tool.

Because of the low reviews, fans speculate that the series may be cancelled instead of getting renewed for a second season.

CBS has yet to announce whether or not the series is getting a season 2 renewal, and any of the complaints may lead to a restructuring of the series or re-casting of the characters in order to boost ratings and reviews.

"MacGyver" is slated to premiere on Sept. 23.
