Apple laptop aficionados have been waiting for a new MacBook Air model for quite a while now and many are looking forward to the company's upcoming event. Fans are expecting that the MacBook Air 2016 will be revealed together with the MacBook Pro 2016 during the Worldwide Developers Conference, or WWDC, which is happening on June 13 to 16 in San Francisco.
There are rumors going around that the Cupertino-based tech giant has ended its Air series of MacBook laptops and nothing will come out this year. The company has been rumored to be streamlining its tablet and laptop series. The upcoming MacBook Pro 2016 will be taking over once the Air series has been discontinued.
However, according to the Australian Network News, Taiwanese website Economic Daily News mentioned that Apple will still produce a MacBook Air series for the current year but it will contain major changes. The upcoming Air series is said to be thinner than existing models but will still have two different screen sizes to choose from, 13 inches and 15 inches, while the 11-inch variant will be discontinued.
The Taiwan-based website also mentioned that the company is still working on the design for the upcoming MacBook Air. Many internal components needs to be revamped and the laptop may only start shipping by next year. It is also speculated that the retail price may go higher than expected.
Additionally, rumors are also suggesting that features like a Retina display, Touch ID and Force Touch may also make it to the highly speculated ultrabook. A bigger battery capacity is also expected to come along.
The current MacBook Air model uses the fifth generation of Intel i5 and i7 processors. Memory upgrade was performed last April 19, wherein the 13-inch model will come standard with an 8GB RAM, while the 11-inch variant remained to be 4GB but can be upgraded to 8GB.
