LA Lakers 2015 rumors: Is Jordan Clarkson ready for the lead role?

Everyone knows that the Los Angeles Lakers may likely land Rajon Rondo once free agency starts though Lakers management made it clear that his asking salary will be a factor.

Rondo, who has had a spate of injuries and a forgettable stint with the Dallas Mavericks, has been rumored to jump to Los Angeles soon, something made even stronger by the fact that he and Kobe Bryant supposedly made preliminary discussions back in December.

But do the Lakers really need Rondo? Don't they have a point guard who has improved by leaps and bounds already?

That player in mention is the 6-foot-5 Jordan Clarkson. Clarkson will be entering his sophomore year and has surely made a name for himself during his rookie year. With Jeremy Lin simply unable to get in the thick of things, Clarkson took over the point guard chores and made quite an impression.

Then again and being in only his second year Clarkson still lacks the experience to go up against the likes of Chris Paul or Russell Westbrook. But could Rondo do better? Perhaps but in the area of using his veteran smarts.

As far as athleticism and durability is concerned, such hounds what the Lakers are getting themselves into with Rondo just in case he does come on board. Will Rondo assume the starting point guard role or will he play backup to Clarkson?

Only coach Byron Scott knows and everyone has seen that Rondo has been used to be the starting point guard dating back to his Boston days.

Clarkson possess the right tools to become a future star of the league. But with the Lakers presumably wanting to get back to their winning tradition, a veteran like Rondo could be a wiser choice.

However it may all depend on whether Rondo would be healthy throughout the season. And that is certainly something worth considering before making any move once NBA free agency comes around.
