LG is reportedly working on incorporating a 3D face-scanning technology in its newest flagship, the LG G6.

According to a Korean news website called The Investor, LG has secured a deal with a firm, called Oez, pertaining to a facial recognition software. The said software is expected to be placed as a 3D face-scanning technology in the LG G6. It is expected to roll out as early as June this year.

The facial recognition software is expected to be launched alongside the new mobile payment service, called the LG Pay, in South Korea. The upcoming feature is anticipated to serve as one of the payment system's verification options. If successful, it will be the first time that the technology is used for secure and contactless payments through a smartphone.

The Investor further reports that the Korean company has chosen Oez to be its partner because if the facial recognition software works with LG G6, it can be easily scaled in the LG G5 and LG V20 devices. Aside from this, the upcoming software is not expected to take too much space in the smartphone at only around 3.5 MB to 5 MB. Most importantly, it is expected to have tight security measures that will prevent hackers from devising other tactics, such through using photos.

According to an uncited media report, the LG Pay and the facial recognition software are LG's versions and efforts to rival the new feature in Samsung Galaxy S8, particularly the iris scanner with built-in Samsung Pay.

Meanwhile, the timeline between now and the expected delivery date of the new technology is quite short. There are some skepticisms as to whether the said secure technology can be delivered in just two months, but it is also unclear how much pre-work has already been made regarding the new facial recognition software.

LG has also yet to release its official statement regarding the matter.
