L.A. Lakers trade rumors: Team to pick up veteran forward Carl Landry

The NBA training camp period is quickly approaching, and as stated by Lakers Nation, each team has 20 slots to bring in players from free agency, allowing them to decide which ones to officially recruit by the time training camp is over. According to the report, the Lakers are interested in adding veteran forward Carl Landry to their training camp roster.

The news broke out from KSTP reporter Darren Wolfson via Twitter. According to Wolfson, Landry is reportedly aiming to lend his talents to any team interested and at the moment the Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers are amongst the teams that might take his offer.

Lakers Nation further points out that the team has already come to an agreement with Julian Jacobs, Travis Wear and Zach Auguste. The team currently has 18 of their 20 slots for training camp already filled and if they manage to bring in Landry they'll have one slot left.

According to the report, Landry has already proven his scoring capability throughout his 9 years in the NBA, averaging 10 points per game. His most notable run was with the Sacramento Kings in 2010 where he averaged 18 points per game. Last season Landry averaged 9.8 points per game for the Philadelphia 76ers.

It is pointed out that adding Landry is a little bit of an oddity for the L.A. Lakers given how they already several big men in their roster, all of them competing for the same general spots in the team. However, it is stated that if Landry does make it he will likely be filling in the role played by Brandon Bass last season.

The L.A. Lakers are still formulating a new team roster and new gameplay strategies given that long-time veteran Kobe Bryant had retired and many of their original players have been traded out or have left, allowing the Lakers to focus on rebuilding their team from the ground up.
