Los Angeles Lakers trade rumors 2016: Travis Wear signed for training camp roster

 LA Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers have officially signed forward Travis Wear for their growing training camp roster, as per a report from The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski via Twitter. According to Wojnarowski, Wear will be competing with a few select others for a roster spot on the LA Lakers team when the 2016-2017 season officially begins.

As stated in a report from Silver Screen and Roll, Wear was not present in the NBA last season as he spent his time playing overseas. His last appearance in the NBA was during the 2014-2015 season where he played for the New York Knicks. He reportedly played 51 games and was a starting player for one Lakers game.

During his last season in the NBA Wear managed to garner an average of 3.9 points per game and 2 rebounds. His average play time amounted to 13.2 minutes per game. It is undetermined at this point if the player has managed to improve his averages per game given he did not compete in the 2015-2016 NBA season.

With only 15 guaranteed spots in the team the Lakers reportedly now have 17 players competing against each other, particularly after the addition of Zach Auguste. The report states that it is more likely Wear will not be getting the slot into the LA Lakers and is going to use his time in the training camp to boost his chances of getting a deal overseas.

It is unclear if Wear is going to be taken into the final roster of the L.A. Lakers given that the team is focusing on building a core group of young players with high potential. However, fans speculate that the Lakers may keep Wear in but only to trade him out with someone they intend on keeping, such as a player fresh off the draft or a veteran to guide the team in the 2016-2017 season.
