A promotional still for the series "Iron Fist" Netflix

Netflix continues to build its own version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the recent launch of "Luke Cage" and the upcoming release of "The Defenders." The streaming giant has recently given fans the first image of actor Finn Jones as Danny Rand, who is also known as Iron Fist. Netflix also announced that the show is premiering in March 2017.

A teaser trailer has also been released, although it is less than 20 seconds long, and it only focused on revealing the premiere date along with a logo of a dragon. A longer trailer was showcased back during the San Diego Comic-Con which focused more on Danny Rand's origins and a glimpse of his newfound strength and fighting prowess.

The Hollywood Reporter states that the show's first season will have 13 episodes, and it will be the fourth in the Netflix's lineup of Marvel shows, following the launch of "Daredevil" seasons 1 and 2, "Jessica Jones" and "Luke Cage." It not only reveals the origins of the titular character, but it is also said that the series will build up to the events that lead to "The Defenders," the show that unites the aforementioned heroes.

In the included synopsis, "Iron Fist" follows Danny Rand as he returns to New York City after he had gone missing for many years. Unfortunately, the city had been taken over by corrupt officials and businessmen running mobs and criminal organizations. Apart from that, he returns to see his own family business has fallen apart. To clean the city and reclaim what is his, Danny uses the power of the Iron Fist as well as his own martial arts training.

Along with the teaser trailer came the first official image, showing Danny moments before slamming a punch on an unsuspecting opponent.

Polygon notes that Danny is best friends with Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Cage is an associate of Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter). Jessica has met Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson), a nurse who had also helped Daredevil (Charlie Cox).

"Iron Fist" is scheduled to premiere on March 17, 2017.
