Rumors about the iPhone SE 2 have been going around for months, but Apple made no mention of such device in the company's recent keynote events. Nevertheless, the possibility remains that the first budget and pocket iPhone released in 2016 will get a major upgrade soon. As per the latest reports, the second standard edition handset will arrive in mid-2018.
The recent iPhone SE 2 scoop came from China Economic Daily, which claims that the handset will come with the same 4-inch display of the original SE. It is expected to be launched by the middle of next year, possibly in July. The SE 2 is said to retain its affordable branding, although it will be a bit more expensive than the current iPhone SE with $349 price tag. The SE successor is expected to be priced at $450.
To recall, Apple captured the interest of the public by introducing a standard edition iPhone back in March 2016. The iPhone SE highlights the premium features of older iPhone models, but the price is made more affordable for users with tight budget. The last upgrade of the iPhone SE happened in March this year with a slight bump in memory.
It is rumored that the iPhone SE 2 will feature an upgrade in its processor, as well as some major improvements in the camera department. According to 9to5Mac, it is likely that the SE 2 will receive the A10 chip currently used by iPhone 7 units. There is also a possibility that the handset will boast a dual-lens camera setup.
Apple followers are thinking that the iPhone SE 2 will follow the distinct design and features of the 2017 flagship, iPhone X. In fact, a visualized render recently surfaced online, showing the SE 2 with the iPhone X's signature bezel-less display plus the notch on top. Still, an iPhone X-inspired standard handset poses a lot of challenges, including the issue on affordability and portability. While Apple may decide to insert top-end features for the SE 2, the cost and over-all size should not be compromised, especially that the iPhone SE targets the users who are not fond of larger iPhone models.
