iOS 11.1 news, updates: Apple launches latest major update with 70 new emojis, Wi-Fi bug fix

Apple iOS 11 preview in different Apple devices Apple/iOS 11

Apple has released a number of minor updates for the iOS 11 since its launch in September. However, the tech giant finally went on with the first major update for the firmware, featuring new exciting content and important security updates. The iOS 11.1 includes over 70 new emoji to give more meaning to users' messages, as well as vital Wi-Fi setting changes to secure the device against cyber-attacks.

As reported by The Verge, the iOS 11.1 highlights a variety of emojis, allowing the users to be more diverse in expressing their feelings. Some of the new emojis included in the iOS update are a cursing smiley face, Chinese takeout box, a hedgehog, a sandwich, a mermaid, a vampire, and other supernatural beings. iOS users should take note that the new emojis sent by other people will not show up properly in their device until the update is applied. Aside from adding more emojis, the iOS 11.1 update also includes design improvements with emoji selection on the keyboard.

The iOS 11.1 update is not just for aesthetics, as it also includes important patch updates to heighten the Apple devices' security, according to Engadget. The major update has the fix for the "Krack" Wi-Fi exploit vulnerability, something that the users would want to have in their devices at this point. It was reported that hackers are able to launch a key reinstallation attack or "Krack" on other users to collect personal information. This cyberattack can be done by decrypting network traffic, but with the Wi-Fi patch now up in the iOS 11.1 update, users are now safer than ever.

Another content included in the iOS 11.1 is the 3D touch option, although it is not considered new as earlier beta versions of the iOS 11 already introduced this feature. Now, users can launch the app switcher by touching the left side of the screen.

The first version of the iOS 11 was met with complaints among users, and the following minor updates only helped a little to solve the problems. However, with the iOS 11.1 release, there is hope that the current Apple OS is back to being reliable.
