Apple's latest version of its mobile operating system, iOS 10, will be available for users to download and install on September 13, 2016. iPhone, iPad and iPod users can expect to download the new iOS starting 10 a.m. PST.

Apple has a history of rolling out iOS updates between 9 and 10 a.m. PST. This could also be applied to the upcoming iOS 10 release.  For those in the Eastern and Central time zones, expect to get the updates from 12 noon to 1 p.m., while those in the Mountain time zone might be able to start downloading the newest iOS update from 11 a.m. up to 12 noon.

Those who live outside the U.S. can expect to get the iOS 10 update in varying time frames. Some could be earlier or later than the U.S. schedule. The estimated iOS 10 release times in major cities worldwide are as follows:

  • London – 5 to 6 p.m.
  • Moscow – 8 to 9 p.m.
  • New Delhi – 9:30 to 10:30 p.m.
  • Shanghai – 12 midnight to 1 a.m.
  • Tokyo – 1 to 2 a.m.
  • Melbourne – 2 to 3 a.m.
  • Auckland – 4 to 5 a.m.

The above are just estimated times for the global iOS 10 release, which means that the operating system could be rolled out earlier or later than the expected time frames.

The list of Apple Inc. products that are compatible with the new iOS 9 includes the iPhone7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5, iPad Pro, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad 4th generation, iPad Mini 4, iPad Mini 3, iPad Mini 2, iPad Touch 6th generation.

Users are advised to back up all data before installing the new software on an iPhone, iPad or iPod.

Users will be receiving a notification when the new iOS is ready to download. Another method is to update over the air by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Be sure to connect your device to a power source and connected to Wi-fi during the installation process.

The new iOS 10 can also be downloaded and installed through iTunes by connecting the device onto a desktop or Mac and 'check for update' before downloading and updating to the latest software.

Users should expect some delays when downloading the new software immediately after release as millions will be trying to access the servers all at once. To avoid any errors, it is advisable to give it a few days before the rush is over.
