Subset Games, the developer and publisher of "Into the Breach," announced that the upcoming game will release on Feb. 27.

Subset Games announced on Twitter on Feb. 6 that its new game, "Into the Breach," will release on Steam, GOG.com and Humble Store later this month.

According to PC Gamer, "Into the Breach" is set in the future wherein the last of the human civilization has to fight gigantic creatures that are breeding underground — an alien race called the Vek. Players will take on the role of the commander of an elite squad of pilots who will be battling these aliens by operating giant mechs (robots) powered from local nodes in the buildings and can be equipped with weapons and armor. "Into the Breach" will make use of a turn-based combat system in which players control three mechs, coordinating their attacks in response to the enemies' actions. The game also features the concept of time travel. If a player fails to defeat the Veks, one of the player's mechs will be sent in a wormhole to an alternate timeline to begin the game again.

The goals of the game are simple — players must defend and protect civilian buildings as they power their mechs and defeat the Vek. In an interview with Shacknews, the heads of the independent game developer Subset Games, Justin Ma and Matthew Davis, explained why one of the game's goal is to defend and protect buildings. Apparently, "Into the Breach" was the duo's response to the media's fascination with collateral damage. The duo wanted players to understand that there are things that should be considered other than just winning: collateral damage — the people who get killed in the process of doing so as well as the structures that are demolished.

Subset Games is also the developer and publisher of the successful spaceship simulation game "FTL: Faster Than Light" that was released in Sept. 2012.
