'Hunger Games: Mockingjay €” Part 2' movie news: cast includes Gwendoline Christie as Commander Lyme

Gwendoline Christie in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 Lionsgate

The first official trailer for "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2" was released on June 9 and briefly shown, amidst the quick shots of action, is actress Gwendoline Christie playing the character known as Commander Lyme.

According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, Christie, famous for playing Brienne of Tarth in the HBO series "Game of Thrones," wasn't originally set to be Commander Lyme in "Mockingjay — Part 2" since the role was initially given to actress Lily Rabe. Rabe had to drop out of the film, however, due to a previous commitment to "Much Ado About Nothing"; thus, Christie was offered the role.

In the books that the film franchise is based on, Lyme is a former Hunger Games champion and hails from District 2, the militaristic state of Panem. District 2 is also the closest to the Capitol, making it a vital spot for the rebellion to claim as territory.

Lyme is described as a tall, strong woman standing over 6 feet. Christie herself is reported to stand 6 feet 3 inches. The character is set to become one of the key figures in turning District 2 against the Capitol and leading its citizens to join Katniss Everdeen's (Jennifer Lawrence) war for freedom.

Although Christie is most famous for her role on "Game of Thrones," she is also set to play the mysterious Chrome Trooper known as Captain Phasma in the upcoming sci-fi epic "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." The character is stated to be a member of the First Order, which is a remnant of the Empire, but it isn't clear if Phasma herself is a villain or just fighting on the wrong side.

With "Mockingjay — Part 2" added, Christie now has a part in three of the biggest franchises on TV and cinema today.

"I can't help but feel like the unlikeliest girl at school," she stated in a previous interview with EW. "I never thought I'd be in these amazing projects."

"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2" opens in theaters this Nov. 20.
