Carriers are finally releasing the long overdue Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the HTC One M9. Despite the expected delay in its release, it is better late than never, right?
Of course, all eyes are still on the Android M which will reportedly come out before the end of the year. However, the discussion on when it would reach subscribers of certain carriers is another matter.
This is not to discourage people about the long wait, but such is a reality when it comes to releasing over-the-air (OTA) updates. It is a given; so while an Android M release is something to look forward to, be ready for delays.
As far as the HTC One M9 is concerned, many are aware of the specs that the Android 5.1 Lollipop offers. Such include the fix for some bugs, better battery life, and some improvements on the camera software. The latest carrier to release the operating system (OS) update is T-Mobile. Other carriers like Sprint and AT&T already did so last month, as bared by the Android Pit.
So with news about the HTC One M9 getting some Android 5.1 Lollipop love, some may be led to believe that the HTC One M8 should be getting (or should have already gotten) the Android 5.1 Lollipop bump. Sadly, such is not the case.
According to Phone Arena, the HTC One M8 will be bypassing the Android 5.1 Lollipop update and will instead upgrade directly to Android M. This was revealed by no less than HTC's vice president for product management, Mo Versi, via tweet.
At the moment, most carriers offering the HTC One M8 are running it on Android 5.0. Only AT&T has released a slightly higher Android OS update, which is Android 5.0.2.
And from the looks of it, carriers who have HTC One M8 running on Android 5.0 will bypass any other Android Lollipop upgrade, likely making a big jump to Android M once it becomes available.
