The reviews are out for the new historical drama movie "Hostiles," which received good feedback from critics who generally praised the adventure-drama for its great storytelling and outstanding performances by main protagonists Christian Bale and Rosamund Pike.

The adventure-Western film, directed by Scott Cooper, received a satisfactory 74 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a site that aggregates review grades from various entertainment outlets. Here are what some of the reviewers had to say.

Robert Roten from Laramie Movie Scope expressed, "There are wonderful performances in this film. The quiet dignity that Wes Studi brings to his character is key to making this story work, along with Christian Bale's portrayal of inner emotional conflicts and Rosamund Pike's searing grief and rage."

Next, Cary Darling from Houston Chronicle wrote, "Along with another 2017 film, 'Wind River,' 'Hostiles' is a welcome story that deals with Native American issues, though what would be even more welcome is Native Americans telling their own stories on the big screen."

Finally, J. Hurtado from ScreenAnarchy stated, "'Hostiles' is a fascinating and complex exploration of the evolution of the overall morality of the old west."

The story is about legendary Army Captain Joseph J. Blocker (Bale) and his journey to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief, by the name of Yellow Hawk (Wes Studi), back to the latter's tribal lands. At first, the soldier refuses to grant the dying chief's request, but he later has a change of heart when he hears the Native American's touching plea to see his family again.

The unlikely friends travel across the hostile land and are joined by Rosalie Quaid (Pike), whose family was murdered on the plains. Together, they fend off the Comanche and other vicious outliers that they encounter along the way.

"Hostiles" is set to premiere on Friday, Jan. 26, in theaters across the nation.
