The upcoming 2015 American action thriller that is based on the video game character Agent 47, will be a reboot of the film series after the 2007 "Hitman" ended up being a thorough disappointment. Initially, Paul Walker was going to star as Agent 47 but after his passing in late 2013, Rupert Friend has decided to star as the hairless protagonist.

According to screenrant, the official synopsis of the film is as follows:

"HITMAN: AGENT 47 centers on an elite assassin who was genetically engineered from conception to be the perfect killing machine, and is known only by the last two digits on the barcode tattooed on the back of his neck. He is the culmination of decades of research and forty-six earlier Agent clones — endowing him with unprecedented strength, speed, stamina and intelligence. His latest target is a mega-corporation that plans to unlock the secret of Agent 47′s past to create an army of killers whose powers surpass even his own. Teaming up with a young woman who may hold the secret to overcoming their powerful and clandestine enemies, 47 confronts stunning revelations about his own origins and squares off in an epic battle with his deadliest foe."

On Feb. 5, 2013, it was reported that 20th Century Fox will be developing a remake of the 2007 film. Filming of the movie has taken place in various locations, ranging from Berlin and Singapore. During the month of June 2014, Fox had set the release date of the film for Feb. 27, 2015, but due to undisclosed reasons, the film's official release date has been set back to Aug. 28, 2015.

The 2007 film, while garnering a terrible rating from film review aggregator website, Rotten Tomatoes, was still mildly successful in financial terms, accumulating a Box Office revenue of $100 million from its budget of $24 million.
