GoPro Hero 5 release date hinted by Karma drone showcase at CES 2016?

GoPro Hero 4, the most recent iteration of the GoPro cameras GoPro

In October last year, GoPro published a short teaser video announcing a drone in development. Last month, the company uploaded another teaser, this time confirming the drone as an official GoPro one, dubbed the Karma drone. While GoPro has yet to come out with details about the drone, some observers believe that a CES 2016 showcase for the flagship is possible and might even give a hint at the much-anticipated GoPro Hero 5's arrival.

According to CNN, company investors are hoping that GoPro will officially unveil the Karma drone this week, during the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. While GoPro has yet to confirm it, the news website said that it might be possible, given that this year's CES is focused on the emerging virtual reality trend.

The Karma drone would be a right fit for the event as the drone was previously rumored to be able to feature a 360-degree camera set-up to capture virtual reality videos and images.

Meanwhile, Parent Herald noted that the 2016 release for the GoPro Karma drone might also give a hint at the release date of the much-anticipated Hero 5 action camera. Although the Karma drone was rumored to have an "all GoPro product-compatible" set-up -- meaning it can accommodate even previous versions of the action cam -- releasing the drone alongside a new iteration of GoPro's signature action cam will generate much interest in the lineup. In addition, the two products might even come out in a bundled package, particularly catering to adrenaline junkies who are also GoPro fans.

Meanwhile, although GoPro has yet to announce details on the GoPro Hero 5, some observers believe that it will be a better version of the company's signature action cam lineup. According to Inquisitr, the Go Pro Hero 5 is speculated to feature waterproofing for up to 60 meters deep, 8K recording resolution, and dual-lens set-up for 3D image captures.
