'Game of Thrones' Season 8 plot rumors: Deleted Instagram post gives clues about Melissandre's fate

Melissandre might be up to something that could shift the tide for to side of the living, according to fans.

The eighth and final season of HBO's global phenomenon "Game of Thrones" won't be hitting the screens until 2019, and while this is a really long wait for viewers who are aching to see who will be left to sit on the Iron Throne, it gives diehard fans — both of the television series and the books — lots of time to speculate the upcoming events for what might be the most epic season of all, and it looks like there are already some theories surrounding the fate of "The Red Lady."

A deleted Instagram video by Dutch actress Carice Van Houten, was investigated by GOT fans from the online discussion website Reddit. The video showed Van Houten's point of view while she was driving during the night on the left side of the road, to which the investigators deduced that she must currently be in the United Kingdom.

The post also showed her passing by a road sign which, based on her direction, indicated that she is driving southwest from Belfast, and many fans know that this area is where many scenes for GOT are filmed via Linen-Mill Studios. Scenes from Winterfell, Riverrun, and the Three-eyed Raven's cave are all filmed in this same place.

But what scenes could Van Houten have been filming if this is truly the case? The investigators believe that she is already filming the scenes of her character returning to Westeros, where she said she would return for one last time to meet her fate.

Melissandre has been around since the second season, serving as the advisor and resident spell caster to Stannis Baratheon during his rather misguided quest to rule the Seven Kingdoms. After Stannis' eventual defeat, she switched sides and joined Jon Snow after resurrecting him, believing him to be the true "Prince that was promised."

She was banished by Jon Snow (Kit Harington) from the North for committing the unforgivable crime of burning Stannis' daughter Shireen. Realizing that her "whispering in the ears of kings and queens" have already done more harm than good, she concedes and travels to meet Daenerys Targaryen to try and "bring ice and fire together," possibly her final act of involvement in the great war.

Since Melissandre declared that she would die in Westeros — even giving an eerie hint to Varys (Conleith Hill) that he will suffer the same fate — it would make sense that Van Houten's post indicates that she is well on the way of filming her final scenes for her last "Game of Thrones" appearance.

"Game of Thrones" will return for its final season in 2019.
