Video game developer Square Enix is coming out with a remake of "Final Fantasy VII," and it is already looking for new core members of the development team in charge of the game. The job listing implies that though the remake is getting off the ground, there is a lot that still needs to be done for the game.
Gaming blog Siliconera found and translated the job listing, which was posted in Japanese. The posting reportedly included the job requirements as well as a progress update for the remake.
According to the translated version, Square Enix is looking for people who have experience in game planning for console games. Candidates must have experience in level design and game development, and must be able to use the game development suite Unreal Engine 4. Those who apply for a position will have the chance to be part of a team that developed one of the best-known games in the world as well as the opportunity to receive good benefits.
Square Enix said in the ad that they needed to fill "a core group that includes level planners, battle planners, designers, engineers, and various types of jobs to tackle on the production of the big title." The company also explained that they need new development team members in order to improve the quality of the remake.
Even those who have not actually played "Final Fantasy VII" are welcome to apply for a spot on the core development team. After all, the game came out way back in 1997. Thus, it is possible that future and even current Square Enix employees have heard of "Final Fantasy VII," although they have never actually played it.
However, the job posting does not mean that Square Enix has not begun working on the "Final Fantasy VII" remake yet. The company is already working on the characters at least. During an event for the 30th anniversary of "Final Fantasy," Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the remake, revealed that the Final Fantasy VII character Cloud has a new design.
However, Nomura did not reveal the new character design itself at the event, though he did say that Cloud will have a more youthful look in the remake.
Thus, the remake has reportedly been in the works for quite a while, though Square Enix is making sure to keep most of the details under wraps.
What is certain now, however, is that the game will take years to come out. Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda revealed in the company's financial results report that the "Final Fantasy VII" remake will likely be released "in the next three years or so."
