Marvel has recently released the teaser trailer for "Doctor Strange," and fans both love and hate it at the same time for it contains so much but also very little. Furthermore, a controversy erupted when Tilda Swinton was cast to play The Ancient One, Strange's guru, because fans were expecting someone else.
"Doctor Strange's" comic book series depicts the mystical guru as an old Tibetan monk who opens up the eyes of Stephen Strange, a neurosurgeon, to magic and alternate dimensions. Casting Swinton, a white female with no Asian features, caused some uproar from the fans of the comic book series.
Den of Geek reported that Marvel was even accused of whitewashing when Swinton was asked to play the role of the mystical entity.
"The script that I was presented with did not feature an Asian man for me to play, so that was never a question when I was being asked to do it," Swinton explained, adding, "It all will be revealed when you see the film, I think. There are very great reasons for us to feel very settled and confident with the decisions that were made."
On other news, "Doctor Strange's" co-writer, C. Robert Cargill, mentioned that the trailer only shows a minuscule portion of the movie. Fans will sure get a treat when they watch the whole movie, according to CinemaBlend.
Cargill said, "This teaser is, it's the definition of a teaser. You are only getting a like a small taste of just how crazy this movie gets. We have only just the slightest hints of magic in there. There are major characters you don't even glimpse in that trailer, there is so much stuff going on, that this thing is just nutty, the stuff they let us do, I can't believe they let us do it."
"Doctor Strange" stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange aka Doctor Strange, Chitwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo, and Tida Swinton as the Ancient One. It also stars Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg and Mads Mikkelsen.
"Doctor Strange," the master of mystic arts, is set to hit North American theaters on Nov. 4.
