After a short break, "Criminal Minds" season 11 returns this week and will feature another abduction case.
As stated in the synopsis, the Behavior Analysis Unit (BAU) will deal with an 18-year-old girl who escaped from her abductor. The girl is revealed to be imprisoned in a suburban home for several years and that two other women were also with her.
SpoilerTV already has the trailer for the next episode, "Hostage." In the teaser, it can be heard that little girls are creepily singing the "ABC Song." This likely gives the idea that these girls have been kidnapped when they were still young, and since they are being held captive, they learned their alphabet from their captor.
When one looks at the video, it's easy to assume that these girls have also been sexually abused by the person they've been brainwashed to think of as their "daddy."
It is revealed by Derek (Shemar Moore) that the man has kept the girls captive for more than 10 years. The promo also shows one of the girls sawing off the small window bars from their room in an attempt to escape, while another is warning her about what she's doing.
The promo trailer also stated, "These girls have one thing in common — daddy issues." When seeing trailers like this one, it's easy to speculate that the ladies or — at least one of them — will somehow develop Stockholm syndrome or a bond with their captor.
It's been shown several times in previous "Criminal Minds" episodes how a kidnapped victim will develop empathy or sympathy toward the person who abducted them. Sometimes, it reaches to a point where the victim will defend his or her captor from authorities. Episodes from season 9 such as "The Edge of Winter" and "The Return" are perfect examples.
Stockholm syndrome has been a common concept in the hit CBS series, but will viewers see this concept again in "Hostage"?
