Oscar De La Hoya is seriously considering a return to boxing and wants to take on the best if he does come back also talking about a possible rematch against Floyd Mayweather.

"It's got to be worth my while but this is very serious. I have to make sure I am fighting the very best. I don't have to come back for financial reasons or the lights or the glamour. The only reason I would come back is because I miss the competition of fighting the very best," De La Hoya shared with ESPN.com.

According to ESPN's report, De La Hoya is having the best feeling he has had in his life as he stayed away from alcohol and is no longer facing injuries.

"I've gotten everything taken care of -- my rotator cuffs, my left hand, everything. I'm pain free," De La Hoya said.

"I just feel great physically. I've been taking care of myself. I've been doing the Bernard Hopkins lifestyle. You can turn the clock back to a certain time," he added.

The last time the 1992 Olympic Games gold medalist stepped in the ring was in 2008 and he was stopped by eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao in eight rounds.

But if he returns, De La Hoya looks to challenge Mayweather's undefeated streak again or take on the streaking Gennady Golovkin.

"I want to fight one of them because they are the best and I always fought the best. That's what boxing is all about - fighting the best," De La Hoya said in ESPN's report.

Despite him saying that a return is 50-50, De La Hoya has been training daily to stay fit and says he is in the best shape of his life.

If the comeback turns into reality, De La Hoya said he wants to be trained by Floyd Mayweather Sr.

Earlier this month a video posted by Black Sports Online showed Mayweather saying he is willing to take on De La Hoya in a rematch if he comes out of retirement.

The undefeated welterweight champion is set to fight for the last time this September after beating Pacquiao last May.
