In the next episode of "Black Lightning," Jefferson Pierce a.k.a. Black Lightning (Cress Williams) struggles with whether or not he should take on his superhero persona and fight crime once again.

The trailers and promotional photos for the upcoming installment, which is titled "Lawanda: The Book of Hope," were released just recently, and they show Pierce searching for the villainous Lala (William Catlett). He ends up finding him in a parking lot with his thugs.

He thinks that Lala may be behind the recent spate of crimes in the city. However, Pierce wants to go after the person pulling the strings behind Lala. That person is the criminal kingpin Tobias Whale (Marvin Jones III), who is very difficult to catch. Pierce wants to take down Whale but realizes that he can only do that if he becomes Black Lightning.

Pierce visits his old friend Peter Gambi (James Remar) to get his advice. "Get back into the suit and let's take these guys down," his close confidante says to him. The reluctant superhero appears to don the hi-tech suit once again, provided by Gambi, who happens to make special suits aside from the usual tailored ones. It remains to be seen how much punishment Black Lightning will inflict on the criminals in the city.

In a recent interview with EW, Williams talked about his daughters' respective journeys into discovering their own superhuman abilities. He expressed, "It's kind of a messy mixture of pride, that these are his genes and his offspring are having these abilities... It has torn up his family to a certain degree. He's seen people lose their lives by having these abilities. There's that fear of not wanting his daughters to travel down the same road as him."

"Black Lightning" season 1 episode 2 will hit the airwaves on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
