Everyone's favorite science nerds will be back this fall when Big Bang Theory season 12 premieres on September 24.

That premiere date has just been confirmed by CBS. September 24 is a Monday but after the first episode, the show will move to its regular Thursday spot.

If you can't get enough of Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, then you're in luck as there's also Young Sheldon season 2 premiering straight after the first episode of The Big Bang Theory season 12 on September 24.

We are excited to see how the plot will continue after season 11 ended on a high note with the wedding of Sheldon and Amy that was officiated by none other than Mark Hamill. Hopefully it wasn't such a high note that the writers will be struggling to come up with an engaging plot line for the next season, especially if it's going to be the end for Sheldon and co.

It's still not clear whether season 12 will be the show's final season or whether we will see a season 13 after all. There's no word on that score from CBS so far.

Showrunner Steve Holland told Deadline earlier this year that even he didn't know the answer to that question: 'Right now I know we have a Season 12; I don't know what the future holds beyond that. So our plan is to make the best season we can and not leave anything on the table. I'm sure we'll know before the end whether we're writing a series finale or not.'

And according to Digital Spy, he's still working on the assumption that the stories should be wrapped up in season 12.

He told the website: 'We're not leaving anything on the table in season 12. If there are stories we want to do, we will put them out there and see what happens.'
