'Bates Motel' season 5 spoilers, premiere date: Sheriff Romero seeks revenge after death of Norma

Romero will make sure Norma's death will be avenged in "Bates Motel" season 5. A&E

Sheriff Alex Romero (Nestor Carbonell) will be hell-bent with revenge in "Bates Motel" season 5 after learning about what happened to his wife, Norma (Vera Farmiga).

In the previous season of the series, Norman (Freddie Highmore) finally got to kill his mom. Because he is doing jail time for perjury, Romero was not there to stop the crime.

While his incarceration will pose a challenge in reaching the love of his life's murderer, "Bates Motel" season 5 will still see Romero do what he could to make Norman pay for what he did to Norma.

According to reports, the death of Norma will set off a pursuit between Norman and Romero, who are expected to chase and kill each other in "Bates Motel" season 5.

As fans already know, Farmiga will still reprise her role in "Bates Motel" season 5. However, she will appear on a show in a slightly "modified" role as she will now merely exist in Norman's twisted mind.

"Bates Motel" will go full "Psycho," the 1960 Alfred Hitchcock film that inspired the series, for its final season. However, as the show did for four seasons now, it will flesh out the character of Norma.

"In the original 'Psycho' you don't really know anything about Norma Bates. You just know that she's a corpse, and you imagine that she was this shrew of a woman who berated her son into becoming crazy," executive producer Carlton Cuse told TV Line.

"But we re-imagined their relationship as this complex, intense, co-dependent love story. And that relationship continues very much in season 5. It just has a different dimension, which is that she's dead. But it's not the end of the story," he went on to say.

"Bates Motel" season 5 premieres sometime next year on A&E.
