Barack Obama news: Former POTUS has more re-tweeted posts on Twitter than current POTUS

The social media website Twitter is United States President Donald Trump's domain. The POTUS updates his Twitter account almost daily with his opinions and takes on several issues involving his country and his presidency. However, former President Barack Obama beats Trump when it comes to who has the most top tweets in 2017.

Twitter recently released a list of the most re-tweeted tweets in 2017. Three tweets from Obama are included -- one personal account and two from his POTUS account. Obama's post back in Aug. 12 after the Charlottesville White Supremacy violence is the most-liked tweet in 2017 with over 4.6 million likes and counting. Obama quoted the great Nelson Mandela in the tweet. "No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion." The tweet was also retweeted more than 1.7 million times by other users giving it second place on the list. Believe it or not, Obama was beaten by a tweet about chicken nuggets.

Coming in fifth place is Obama's tweet days before he left his designation as President of the United States. The tweet reads, "Thank you for everything. My last ask is the same as my first. I'm asking you to believe – not in my ability to create change, but in yours." This post generated over 800,000 retweets.

Coming in eighth place of most retweet post of 2017 is one of Obama's final posts as POTUS. The tweet was posted on Jan. 20, the day of Trump's presidential inauguration. Obama stated, "It's been the honor of my life to serve you. You made me a better leader and a better man." This tweet was retweeted over 630,000 times.

Joining Obama on the most retweeted list are other icons like Lebron James and Ariana Grande. Linkin Park's post of a picture of their late vocalist Chester Bennington was sixth most retweeted post of 2017. Two posts involving the devastation in Houston, Texas after Hurricane Harvey are also included on the list.

Several publications indicate that Obama beats Trump on Twitter. Trump is included in the 2017 year in review of Twitter. He was the "Most tweeted about world leader."
