The "Attack on Titan" manga is getting the video game treatment.
During a Nintendo Direct conference, big game publisher Atlus has announced that it would be publishing an adaptation of the hugely popular manga and anime to North America and Europe fans later this year.
The third-person role playing action game is a localized version of a game adaptation already available in Japan and was originally launched in 2013. Fans are expectant of what the game would look like outside Japan, since the game is being handled for global release by the same company behind cult favorites like "Persona" and "Etrian Odyssey".
Aptly titled "Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains", gamers will be on the shoes of an elite Scout Regiment member and defend the three Walls from being breached by invading Titans. To keep the simulation from being close to what fans are familiar with, players will be able to use the omni-directional gear and blade weapons. It will have both single-player campaign story mode and a co-op mode for up to four players, and gamer who will use the new Nintendo 3DS XL system can experience the new C-stick for camera control and the Circle Pad Pro.
There will also be customization features for the characters, and to further keep the authenticity, the game will have original Japanese audio with English subtitles.
For those who are unfamiliar with the "Attack on Titan" franchise, it is known as "Shingeki no Kyojin" in Japan and originated as a manga series by Hajime Isayama. The story follows protagonists Eren Yeager and Mikasa Ackerman, as they join the military to fight giants, called Titans, who keep on attacking walled cities.
The manga has enjoyed a huge cult following, and has already been adopted into other formats. An anime series of the same title has been airing, and there is already a live-action movie in the works and due to launch in Japan this summer.
