The free "Dead Kings" DLC for "Assassin's Creed: Unity" is coming to consoles on Jan. 13. Ubisoft announced in its website that the expansion pack will be available for all platforms – Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.

According to GameSpot, the "Dead Kings" DLC takes place after "Unity." It starts when Arno leaves Paris for Saint Denis, which is a city where the deceased French kings lie. Arno will face off new enemies as he tries to complete a mission in the underground of the Basilica. The protagonist is equipped with a Guillotine gun and a lantern as he traverses the undergrounds and unravels the dark secrets of the city.

It is still unknown how the story will progress, but there are speculations that Napoleon will come back. Also, a new character may gain a bigger role. However, players will only know until the release of the game next week.

Ubisoft originally planned the "Dead Kings" DLC to be a money-making feature of the game, but due to the problems the game was plagued with, the company decided to roll it out for free as a way of apologizing to the affected users. The downloadable content is free to "Assassin's Creed: Unity" players, and those who have paid for the season pass will be gifted with a free game title from Ubisoft.

"Assassin's Creed: Unity" was launched on Nov. 21, 2014, but its rollout was not as smooth as expected. Ubisoft's chief executive Yannis Mallat apologized to gamers for the rocky launch of the game, and Ubisoft swore to release more updates and fixes.  Only recently, the developer rolled out patch 4 to fix the remaining bugs and issues still thriving in the game even after the previous patches.
