HTC has started rolling out its full version Android Nougat 7.0 update to its flagship, the HTC 10. However, the update is a staggered release with only the global, unlocked versions of the device getting the new platform as of now.

According to a tweet by HTC USA, the new Android Nougat 7.0 platform has already started to reach HTC 10 owners. The update weighs in as a 1.11-GB download, so as with other major Android updates, owners are advised to get the update over stable WiFi. The new update brings the software version up to 2.28.617.8. In addition, the update already includes system enhancements as well as the newer November security patch from Google.

Meanwhile, on the design side, the Android Nougat 7.0 platform unlocks new features and improved tweaks for the HTC 10. The new features include the split-screen mode, improved Doze option, a newer notifications window, and customizable quick settings. It will also tweak future updates for the platform since the Android Nougat version already includes seamless software updates.

Observers believe that since HTC has been Google's partner with the Pixel and Pixel XL flagships, the Android Nougat version for the tech maker will be as bloat-free and closer to the stock ROM as possible. Accordingly, it will be similar to the UI and interface for the HTC 10 evo which launched with Android Nougat 7.0 already onboard.

However, the update will only be for the global, unlocked version of the HTC 10. It is expected that carrier-locked models will receive the platform early next year.

The HTC 10 is the current flagship for the Taiwan-based tech maker. HTC has previously stated that it will start the Android Nougat rollout to its lineups before the year ends. With the HTC 10 already starting to get the update, it is expected that other flagship iterations, like the One A9 and One M9, will receive the new platform soon.
