BlackBerry Priv to get Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in Q1 this year?

The Priv made a hype when it was launched, being the first full-version Android-run flagship by BlackBerry. However, when it was released last November, the iteration was carrying Android 5.1.1 Lollipop instead of the newer Android Marshmallow.

Fans of BlackBerry are now asking if and when the flagship iteration will receive its Android Marshmallow update.

According to NeuroGadget, the BlackBerry Priv is confirmed to be getting the Android Marshmallow jump. However, there is still no specific date when this update will roll out. In the recently concluded Consumer Electronic Show, BlackBerry executive Ron Louks announced that the only detail that was available was a targeted release window for the Android M update, which will take place anytime during the first quarter of the year.

Tech Times added that while a "first quarter announcement" is broad, it somewhat lets fans know when they can expect the update. The industry follower said that the update itself usually follows shortly after the announcement is made.

Meanwhile, as fans wait for the official platform update from Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to the new Android M (Louks did not mention if the Priv will jump directly to Android 6.0.1 or the base 6.0 platform), BlackBerry continues to provide firmware updates to make the current flagship iteration better.

GSM Arena reported that a new app is now available for download on Google Play. Apparently, this specialized app is only compatible with the BlackBerry Priv, as it was previously available only on BlackBerry Word. Dubbed he Virtual Expert app, the program works as a specialized diagnostics test for the Priv, a starting point for as many as 18 standard tests for the BlackBerry Priv's different hardware components.

In addition, a firmware update for the BlackBerry camera app was also recently sighted on Google Play.
