Android 5.1.1 Lollipop spotted on Nexus 9 and Nexus 7 2013

Nexus devices with Android 5.0 Lollipop Official Google Blog

It looks like Google is working on a newer build of Android Lollipop, and it is already showing off bits of it even without an official announcement. In the tech giant's Audio Latency information page, the Nexus 9 and the Wi-Fi Nexus 7 2013 were spotted with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

The Nexus 9 has the build LMY47S, and the Wi-Fi Nexus 7 2013 has LMY47W. Interestingly, the latter has already received Android 5.1 Lollipop but the former has yet to make a jump from the original 5.0 Lollipop build.

Google is still mum about the 5.1.1 version of Android, but it looks like the update will be coming sometime soon. One thing is for sure though: Google is hard at work trying to eliminate the menacing issues brought about by Android 5.0 Lollipop. Android devices have been plagued with bugs ever since the release of the new operating system, some of which remain persistent, prompting Google to work feverishly on newer builds.

The Nexus 9, for example, still runs Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, which it received back in November. This build inundated the tablet with the infamous memory leak glitch that eats up the storage of an infected device causing it to crash, slow down, freeze, and become virtually unusable. It is good to know that it will be among the first to get the latest build as it is the one that needs it the most.

For now, Google seems to be doing some tests on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop before it formally says anything about it. While its rollout can be expected, it is still unknown how close Android users are to seeing the latest Lollipop build. The tech giant may simply be looking to announce the existence of the 5.1.1 Lollipop version at a later date.
