Assembly and production for the 2017 edition of the Mercedes Benz GLC Coupe have started, and it seems that the roadmap for an early 2017 release is right on track.
According to an announcement on the Mercedes Benz blog, the new production line has joined other Mercedes Benz lines in Bremen. Noting the production schedule, Peter Theurer, head of the Mercedes Benz plant, stated that "Within just a few weeks, we have successfully integrated the launch of two brand-new models into ongoing series production at the plant, something that is only possible with a highly motivated and expertly qualified team."
Being the largest assembly plant in the company, the Bremen plant is also home to production of other Mercedes Benz lineups. To date, aside from the 2017 GLC Coupe edition, the plant is also responsible for production and assembly on the different editions for the C-Class, the Coupe and Cabriolet variants for the E-Class, and the SL and SLC Roadsters.
Meanwhile, although fans will have to wait a bit longer for the new SUV-Coupe crossover to hit the showrooms, the first-drive reviews for the 2017 edition are already making their round online. Observers agree that performance-wise, the GLC Coupe has all the drive and pull of the regular GLC model. This is no surprise though, as the new GLC Coupe is powered by the same 2.0-liter I4 engine and drivetrain found on the basic model.
However, there are stark differences inside. With the interiors looking sleek and polished, the new GLC Coupe diverts from the regular GLC by having new custom packages depending on the customer. There are also eight leather trims to choose from, as well as alloy wheels for up to 20 inches. These all translate to add-on prices for the new variant, with the minimum priced at €49,444.
