2016 Moto E release date: Lenovo announces third-gen Moto E3 device

 Moto by Lenovo

Previous speculations have said that Lenovo may be overhauling the Moto lineup when it acquired Motorola Mobility. However, the tech manufacturer has instead continued with most of the Moto series, and has even announced the third-gen Moto E.

The entry-level Moto E series has been expanded with the Moto E3. Although remaining as the budget-friendly, average-specs lineup for the Moto series, the new Moto E has received some tweaks and improvements.

One of the noticeable changes in the new Moto E3 is its bigger display. The third-gen Moto by Lenovo now has a 5.0-inch HD screen, a bigger size then the previous 4.5-inch displays for past iterations. According to The Verge, Lenovo also claimed that the new Moto E3 has "built-in smudge-resistant screen protector," which may be an additional layer of protection aside from Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on its display. The camera setup also got an upgrade, with a new 8-MP assembly as the main shooter. The selfie camera at the front is a 5-MP setup.

The rest of the specs are basic, entry-level features like a quad-core, still unnamed processor paired with 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of expandable, onboard storage, and 2,800 mAh battery. It also comes with Android Marshmallow 60 right out of the box.

As for its release date, Lenovo has confirmed that the new Moto E3 will come out in the UK for £99 in September, right after the roll out of Moto G4 Play next month. Meanwhile, it is expected that the September release will also be immediately followed by a staggered, global launch.

The Moto E3 is the latest continuation from the older Moto lineups. As promised by Lenovo, most of the popular series from the old Moto are being kept alive with the new Moto E and Moto G iterations. Meanwhile, Lenovo has also revealed that the Moto X lineup is still alive, though it remains to be seen if the series will retain its flagship status.
