Yota, the Russian smartphone maker, plans on releasing the successors of its dual-screen smartphone YotaPhone 2, which will be named YotaPhone 2c and YotaPhone 3. The current YotaPhone 2 is powered with a Snapdragon 801 SoC, so both smartphones are expected to be incorporated with a much better performance 'system on a chip'. While the following has not been confirmed, it is possible that YotaPhone 3 features Snapdragon 810 while YotaPhone 2c is incorporated with Snapdragon 808.

Both smartphones are expected to feature a better looking display, along with a larger E-ink display to provide a more immersive experience to e-book readers. Both YotaPhones are also expected to pack large battery cells in order to deliver sufficient battery life. Despite being incorporated with impressive hardware specs, the one factor where YotaPhone 2 was met with severe criticism was its price tag.

While it is highly unlikely, Yota could shift to MediaTek's lineup of mobile chipsets in order to substantially reduce its upcoming devices' price tags. The Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturing company is gearing up to launch its MT6797 SoC, which is going to be running a 10-core processor, and will include two cores belonging to Cortex-A72.

With its deca-core processor, not only will MT6797 be able to surpass the processing capabilities of Snapdragon 810, but it also exudes better thermal efficiency in order to keep all components under their thermal threshold. According to TechnoBuffalo, Matthew Kelly, who is Yota's Managing Director stationed at United States, stated:

"We have a next-generation product lined up. We can't sell our next generation until we sell our current one. Carriers are interested, but a lot hinges on how well the YotaPhona 2 does. We pumped a lot of premium specs into YotaPhone 2, but based on market feedback, a lot of people said they could do without certain features. So YotaPhone 2c is in the works if people want it."
