Xiaomi Snapdragon 808 handset to take on LG G4?

 Twitter

After the official announcement of Mi Note Pro, it would have been believed that Xiaomi has had its fair share of releasing smartphones for the year 2015. However, the rising smartphone maker has additional plans for the future, as the company is planning on targeting yet another price segment of the market, with a rumored device that is going to feature a Snapdragon 808 SoC. According to My Drivers, a Chinese analyst using the Twitter name @panjiutang had published a tweet from his Weibo account.

The tweet specified details that the next handset featuring the Xiaomi brand name will be powered by a hexa-core processor. Currently, the only high-end chipset that runs a hexa-core processor is none other than Snapdragon 808. While Snapdragon 808 performs below the performance line of Snapdragon 810, the chipset is not plagued with overheating and thermal throttling issues that Qualcomm's flagship SoC is suffering from.

With the absence of these harmful elements, Snapdragon 808 will be able to deliver continuous performance from its handset, without forcing to reduce the overall clock speeds of its cores in order to prevent irreparable damage to the smartphone. In addition, the unnamed analyst had also stated that the price range of the rumored smartphone would fall in between 1,299 and 1,499 yuan ($208-$241 USD), which should easily be a nice competition for LG G4, which also features the same 'system on a chip'.

If the rumor turns out to be true, and if Xiaomi actually has a smartphone in the works, then the company will effortlessly be able to bridge the performance gap created between handsets like Mi Note Pro and Mi Note, which feature Snapdragon 810 and Snapdragon 801 respectively. Additional details of the rumored smartphone will be made available as 2015 draws to a close.

Additionally, Xiaomi is also rumored to be working on its Mi 5 handset, which is expected to be running Snapdragon 820.
