While fans are waiting for the Mi Note 2, another flagship may also be waiting for an imminent launch. Speculations suggest that Xiaomi will be adding a 6-GB RAM variant to the Mi 5s lineup.
According to Tech Updates, images showing a Xiaomi Mi 5s are circulating out of China. Interestingly, though, one of the photos showcase the Settings tab of the flagship, and it shows the Mi 5s having 6 GB of RAM. Should this prove true, then this will be another upcoming addition to the Mi 5s lineup. Xiaomi has just released the Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus. However, the released versions only carry 3 and 4 GB of RAM with either 64 or 128 GB of onboard storage.
Meanwhile, it remains unclear whether there will be other improvements on the upcoming Mi 5s. As a top-tier variant, the tech maker may decide to amp up the native storage for up to 256 GB.
However, if Xiaomi only adds on the RAM capacity, it is expected that the new iteration will launch with most of the specs and features of the already-launched Mi 5s variants intact. This means that aside from the 6-GB RAM, the new Mi 5s will offer a step-up Snapdragon 821 processor, the Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 right out of the box, layered with MiUI 8, and the same 5.15-inch display with full HD resolution. Other expected specs include USB Type-C support, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, and a 3,200 mAh battery.
Aside from the supposed leaked images, though, not much is known as to when fans can expect the new Mi 5s. It is highly possible that it will come out next month since an October launch was already scheduled by Xiaomi for the Mi Note 2. In addition, it is also likely that Xiaomi will launch the new, top-tier Mi 5s together with another Mi 5 addition, the rumored Mi 5c iteration.
