With 'Ben-Hur' drawing dismal box office numbers, Roma Downey prays to God, says she's running on 'empty'

Executive producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett placed such high hopes on the modern remake of "Ben-Hur," but sadly, box office numbers for the movie starring Jack Huston and Toby Kebbell were pretty dismal.

The movie only came in at No. 6 during its opening weekend, according to Box Office Mojo. Then on Sunday, Paramount announced that the movie raked in $11.35 million, but final numbers averaged only around $11.2 million.

With a $100 million budget, the movie still has a long way to go before making up for what the studio spent for it. Because of this, Downey feels downhearted.

Seeking support from God during this difficult time, the "Touched By An Angel" star posted a prayer on her Facebook page. "Fill me up Lord , I am on empty ! #givemestrength #praying #moreofyoulessofme #iloveyoulord," she wrote.

Later, Downey added: "Keep trusting God, He is always in control even when your circumstances feel out of control. Keep trusting Him #trust #trustinthelord #trustinGod #gratitude #thankyoulord #amen."

Downey earlier expressed pride at their "Ben-Hur" movie remake, saying it has an important message in this world filled with strife. "It is our hope and prayer in that moment of (forgiveness) that this message (inspired by the words of Jesus himself) will resonate out to our country and out to the world," Downey told the Gospel Herald.

She said the movie is all about faith and hope, adding that she expects every moviegoer to come out of the cinema feeling touched by the message of God.

"We feel a calling on our life," she said. "I had such an amazing decade of my life on 'Touched by an Angel,' and got to deliver a message every week in front of 20 million people as a messenger of God's love for us. To some extent, here we are still doing that again, weaving that message throughout the works that we are making."
