Windows 10 mobile update delayed to early 2016

The year is coming to a close and Windows 10 users are expecting that the mobile operating system (OS) will be rolled out on their devices. However, users have not seen any changes to the OS yet.

Recently, Microsoft announced the news regarding the release of the Windows 10 update for mobile platforms.

While the new OS is already available for personal computer (PC) users, mobile users need to hold their breath a little longer, as the release date for the mobile OS has been postponed to early next year instead of before the end of 2015.

"The Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will begin rolling out early next year to select existing Windows 8 and 8.1 phones," a statement from the company reads.

Microsoft did not provide a specific date for the release and also didn't mention the reason why the date has been delayed.

Microsoft has yet as to reveal the complete list of the devices that will receive the upgrade rollout, but the company aims to release it to most of the Lumia devices.

The partial list of phones to receive the Windows 10 update is already out and it includes Lumia 430, Lumia 435, Lumia 540, Lumia 532, Lumia 640 and 640XL, Lumia 735, Lumia 830, and Lumia 930. These devices will "receive a free upgrade when available," as stated in Microsoft's website.

Digital Trends reported that users of devices not included in the list should not worry about not getting the update as Microsoft is likely to add more to the list.

But since the update will need 8 GB of storage space, it would only leave out handsets that are not capable of the update size, such as the Lumia 530.

While waiting for the update rollout, members of the Windows Insider program can check out the Technical Preview of Windows 10 Mobile. The preview, as expected, only gave users a quick glimpse of what's to come in the mobile update.

The new features that are known include an app for audio recording; keyboards that can be positioned on either the left or right side of the screen; fresh context menus; complete notification menu; and a revamped alarm app.
