Wind Turbine Park to Provide Green Energy Off UK Coast

FRANKFURT - E.ON plans to erect around 80 wind turbines 8 kilometers (5 miles) off England's Yorkshire coast, the German utility said on Wednesday, enough to supply up to 200,000 homes with clean energy.

"The planning process for this technically complex project is starting with a series of consultation meetings with representatives from the local fishing industry and local coastline communities," it said in a statement.

E.ON already operates 20 onshore and offshore wind parks in Britain and plans more such projects, including the "London Array", one of the largest offshore parks worldwide.

That project, planned for the Thames estuary, is being jointly developed with Shell WindEnergy and Anglo-Danish consortium Dong Energy London Array, it said.
