Vietnamese teen dies after being electrocuted by iPhone charger while sleeping

A 14-year-old Vietnamese girl died after being electrocuted by a faulty iPhone charger while sleeping. The family of Le Thi Xoan rushed the teenager to the hospital after the incident. Unfortunately, the hospital staff were not able to revive the young girl.

According to reports, police officers recovered a white cable with live wires exposed on the bed where Xoan slept. The cable was used to charge an iPhone 6 in possession of Xoan.

Authorities are still conducting a thorough investigation to confirm if the charger that electrocuted Xoan is authentic from Apple or not. Investigators speculate that the girl rolled over her charger that resulted to the electrocution.

The family of Xoan are still in the middle of grieving over the death of the teenager. With the investigation still in motion, Apple hasn't released any statement about the matter. Several media networks and publications had already asked Apple for a comment, but the company is yet to respond.

Earlier in July, another 14-year-old girl from the Lubbock, Texas also suffered a phone charger-related death. Madison Coe who is visiting her father in Lovington, New Mexico died while taking a bath. Police authorities believe that the teenager reached for her phone while she was in the bathtub.

In 2015, Russian national Evgenia Sviridenko, 24, died after accidentally dropping her iPhone while taking a bath. The iPhone was being charged when Sviridenko reached for it. Russian police also investigated if the charger was manufactured by Apple or was just an imitation.

According to MacWorld, the utilization of cheap iPhone chargers or imitations is not safe. It was indicated in the report that most of these chargers were not verified or checked for safety.

Apple also encourages its patrons to use original chargers for their Apple products. The company recently released its newest smartphone, the iPhone X, which had been riddled with technical issues.
