UFC 203 takes place on Saturday night with a main fight of Stripe Miocic vs Alistair Overeem in what should be a good night of action for UFC fans. Tonight's big event takes place from the Quickens Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, with the FS1 Prelims having a start time of 8 p.m. ET, and the Main Card having a start time of 10 p.m. ET. Tonight's main match up will be interesting as it pits a boxer against a kickboxer, and with both fighters in excellent condition, this could prove to be an explosive bout.
Miocic is fulfilling his potential and is maturing into a great champ. Fans have been impressed with his recent fights, with him knocking out all three of his last opponents. He will be in front of his home Ohio crowd tonight, and that should give him huge encouragement to successfully defend his title.
However, his opponent, Overeem has made massive progress during his time in the UFC, and event though he is the smaller of the two fighters, he will believe he has gained the skills to overcome Miocic in today's battle.
Miocic will be hoping to replicate the same form that has seen him defeat the likes of Fabricio Werdum, Mark Hunt, and Andrei Arlovski. To do so he will be looking to utilize his technical skills as a boxer and wrestler.
However, it would likely be a better strategy for Miocic to try and keep the bout as more of a boxing match. Even though Overeem is strong at distance, Miocic is highly likely to have more stamina if the fight goes that way, and he would be looking for an opening to end the bout with a large punch.
But Overeem has proven he will be no walkover, with key wins against the likes of Junior dos Santos, Brock Lesnar, as well as Arlovski and Werdum. He has been amazingly effective at using his kickboxing skills by moving in and out with speed, and he can wear down figures with his long range shots, as well as devastating combinations if things move into a clinch.
Overeem can out-kick Miocic with ease from the outside, but can also land some powerful game-changing knees if things move closer into a clinch. That's what makes him so dangerous, and what makes this bout so intriguing.
Tonight's main fight for UFC 203 pits one of the heavyweight division's newest contenders against one of the most experienced veterans in the division.
Miocic has said, "It's business. I'm going to go out there and do my job. I've trained too hard to give up my title. Nothing has changed with my training except that I'm training harder than I ever have before."
However, the main fight is not the only attraction for UFC 203, and there are some other massive bouts taking place including two other heavyweight contenders, and even WWE star CM Punk's UFC debut. CM Punk will be taking on Mickey Gall to test his skills in the Octagon.
