UEFA Champions League news: Manchester City vs Paris Saint-Germain; Vincent Kompany not playing due to injury

On Tuesday night, April 12, Manchester City will face Paris Saint-Germain for the second leg of the quarter finals of the Champions League, at the Etihad Stadium. Manchester's captain, Vincent Kompany, will not be seen in action because of his calf injury.

The Manchester defender has been plagued with calf injury for the past few seasons, the 14th time such an injury happened to him. According to BBC Sports News , team manager Manuel Pellegrini said that the team captain will not be able to make it in Tuesday night's game.

Hopes were high when the Belgian footballer was seen last Monday morning, during an open-training session of the squad. However, Pellegrini said, "He is not 100 percent. It is not possible."

Aside from Kompany, Nicolas Otamendi also suffered an ankle injury during the weekend and was a no-show during the practice, but he is said to be playing in the upcoming game as City is looking forward to be included in the semi-finals.

Pellegrini added that they must try hard to control the Saint-German's top scorer, Zlatan Ibrahimović.

"We are always talking, seeing and working with all the defenders," he said. "Maybe they made some mistakes in the last game against PSG but I trust they will play on the level they can do it."

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-German will be playing on Tuesday night without center-back David Luiz and midfielder Blaise Matuidi because of suspensions. Ibrahimović will be ready to show City more of his talent when they meet at the Ethihad Stadium, said Laurent Blanc, the PSG team's manager.

"We are surprised when he misses a chance," said Blanc on Monday, as reported by the DailyMail. "He is demanding of himself. He wants to show more of himself."

Blanc added that his team knows that Manchester will have the advantage but he is also confident that his team will be able to produce the result they need in order to advance in the Championship League.

PSG fans also expect that strikers Edinson Cavani and Javier Pastore will be able to surprise them on Tuesday night's game.
