Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson will not be returning for "True Detective" Season 2. So, who will be the new detectives for the HBO TV series?

Show creator Nic Pizzolatto said that the set for the new season will be in California and there will be four central roles.

According to E! Online, Vince Vaughn is one of the frontrunners to play one of the four lead roles in the second season of "True Detective." Other actors to be considered for the lead roles are Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch, according to an E! News insider. TVLine was the first to report about Vaugn's possible inclusion in the second season of "True Detective."

McConaughey and Harrelson received Emmy nominations for their work in season 1 of the hit series. HBO will need to have great cast for the season 2 to follow the success of its previous season. Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain are also names being attached to the new season as there were rumors that season 2 will have 1 male and 1 female lead.

There is no official word yet for the casting of season 2. However, HBO President Michael Lombardo recently jokingly said at the 2014 Summer TCA Press Tour: "We're going to do the next season with puppets. The two scripts we have are, I hate to jinx it, but are more exciting than the first season. [Creator Nic Pizzolatto has] blown us away with the first two episodes." Lombardo kept silent about the cast, but he hinted that casting announcements will be made soon.

The plot for the new season will be different than the first season. "True Detective" Season 2 might return on HBO on January 2015.
