Gamers owning next generation platforms (PS4, Xbox and Microsoft Windows) might be able to test out Ubisoft's upcoming post-apocalyptic, open world third person shooter "The Division" before it gets officially announced thanks to the latest leak concerning the alpha testing phase of the game. According to VG247, account holders of the social networking service called Reddit stumbled upon a section of "The Division" website which was related to an alpha test.

While no such news has actually been reported by Ubisoft, which serves as the game's developing and publishing company, there is an alpha link present on the top of the menu bar and placed just above the 'Pre-order' section, which might lead to believe that the company has undisclosed plans for the future. Until Ubisoft confirms that "The Division" will be released in an alpha phase, the rumor will remain in limbo.

"The Division" was initially supposed to be a next generation platform exclusive but Ubisoft stated that if sufficient support was displayed by the PC gaming community, then the company could be compelled to port the title for the platform. On August 20, 2013, Ubisoft had announced that the title would be released for Microsoft Windows due to the response given by the 'vocal and passionate PC community.'

The plot of the game revolves around a disease that spreads during the Black Friday holiday season, causing the United States Government to collapse in a small time span of five days. Players will be taking control of avatars called self-supported tactical agents, who will be appearing to lead normal lives like the remainder of the humans looking to survive after the outbreak of the virus.

In addition to combating the virus, players will also be pitted in a massive multiplayer online situation, where they will be fighting against AI-controlled enemies, as well as other players in various locations of the game.

While the title currently has an unconfirmed release date, it is expected to be released later this year.
