Fans will have to wait a bit longer for the continuation of the anime adaptation for "Tokyo Ghoul." According to reports, The third of the animated series is slated to premiere after the live-action movie is released next year.

There have been reports claiming that, although the creative team at Studio Perriot is already fast-tracking season 3 of "Tokyo Ghoul," the continuation of the series will air next year, quite possibly after the release of the live-action film adaptation of the franchise. The live-action movie for "Tokyo Ghoul" is slated to premiere next summer. However, even if the third season of the anime series follows right after the movie, speculations suggest that the movie is a stand-alone story, possibly delving into the origins of the "Tokyo Ghoul" characters.

As for season 3 of "Tokyo Ghoul," rumors suggest that it may become a reboot of the franchise rather than a continuation of the last season. Fans of the franchise were reportedly dissatisfied with how the second season presented, and some have even petitioned for the series to go back to square one. There are also talks that instead of continuing with the original storyline from the manga adaptation, "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 may well jump ahead into the new "Tokyo Ghoul:re" manga, the sequel to the original "Tokyo Ghoul" manga.

If Studio Pierrot decides to closely follow the manga sequel, it will be welcome news to fans. This will be in contrast to how season 2 was presented since the story and plot deviated from the events in the base material. In addition, closely following the manga storyline also means that season 3 will go back to its dark and gory roots since the continuation of "Tokyo Ghoul" presented a number of gruesome events like Arima's suicide — slashing his own throat — and Ken Kaneki's fight to regain his memories.
